Why the day of Ashura is Important for Muslims and Jews? Muharram | Muslim News Online

On the day of Ashura which is 10th of Muharram (Islamic Month), Islamic Calendar, The day is observed as a day of serious sadness and mourning in Islam as the Grandson of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) PBUH was martyred in the battle of Karbala with 71 others who were with him in this battle against Yazeed forces.

Yazeed wanted to be the legal heir of the Imamat (Khilafat) after Hazrat Ali demise. The people of Kufa invited Imam Hussain by fraud and planned to kill him with Yazeed Forces.

Another important aspect of the day of Ashura is that, Prophet Musa was saved by the Firaun, when Allah opened the Sea and make a passage for all the followers of Prophet Musa, they all passed to another side of the sea through that passage, when the forces of Firaun arrived the sea become as it was earlier and all the forces of Firaun drove into the sea, they all died with FIRAUN.

Muslim observed Fast on this day and remember the martyred of Karbala and also give lectures in gathering to tell the sacrifices of Imam Hussain and the importance of the event of Karbala.

Imam Hussain was martyred when he was performing Salah.
